Health Needs
There are no travel vaccines that are required by the Sri Lankan government. However you should be up to date on standard vaccinations such as tetanus, typhoid, hepatitis A and B etc. Please check with the WHO website for current recommendations.
Please bring strong bug/mosquito repellent such as Mosiguard to protect against Malaria and Dengue fever.
It is essential that you come with emergency medical insurance and make sure you have enough money to cover the deductible amount. Medical treatment is relatively cheap in Sri Lanka for minor incidents but Insurance is most definitely needed for major illnesses, a long hospital stay or indeed repatriation.
Camp Coconut cannot and does not guarantee your safety, health or comfort. We are serving a community in an underdeveloped country in unpredictable conditions. You will not have the full attention of any staff at all times. Please plan on being as self reliant and self motivated as possible. We know that each volunteer will receive as much, if not more than they give. |
