Travel Checklist
The following information has been compiled from visitor experience. You will find it helpful for a checklist before departure.
Visas
Sri Lankan visas are available at the airport on entry to the country. One month tourist visas are free. Those wishing to extend their visa while in Sri Lanka can do so in Colombo for up to a further nine months. Fees vary depending on country of citizenship but will be in the region of £50-100 for a further three month stay.
Use the following information for your disembarkation card to be handed in at the airport.

Travel from Colombo airport to Camp Coconut.
Depending on the timing of your flight you can either hire a taxi to take you to Colombo (this costs rps 2000) and stay there until you are ready to travel south to Matara or you can hire a taxi to take you direct to Camp Coconut in Kamburugamua,Matara (a jouney of around 4 hours).
From Colombo it is possible to take a train to Matara or an air conditioned bus. Both these can be found at Fort Railway Station. This is a very cheap option for travelling south (approx rps200). Someone will be available to pick you up from Matara train station if you notify them in advance of your arrival.
If you intend to hire your own car you need to be in possession of an international driving licence.
